Cookies and local browser storage can remember preferences, measure visits, and support advertising. This page supplements our privacy policy.

What we use

  • Privacy preferences: Google's consent platform remembers advertising and European consent choices. Its message describes the vendors and purposes involved. Our own analytics-off preference is stored locally for up to 180 days. If storage is unavailable, it applies for the current visit.
  • Analytics: Google Analytics uses _ga and related cookies to measure visits and site usage. We request a cookie lifetime of 180 days and disable Google signals and advertising personalization. Browsers may shorten cookie lifetimes.
  • Advertising: Google AdSense and its partners use cookies and similar technologies for ad delivery, measurement, fraud prevention and, where permitted, personalization. Vendor-specific details and lifetimes are available through Google's European consent message and Google's cookie information.

Regional choices

U.S. readers do not receive an automatic analytics opt-in prompt. Analytics can start once we establish a U.S. location and Google's consent platform confirms that European consent is not applicable, unless you have turned analytics off or use Global Privacy Control. We use a country-level hosting signal; our region endpoint does not return your IP address.

For readers in the EEA, UK, and Switzerland, analytics waits for permission through Google's consent message. If permission or the region is unresolved, analytics stays off. The U.S. default is not saved as an explicit consent.

Privacy choices

Where Google's U.S. state privacy message applies, Your Privacy Choices opens the advertising sale/sharing opt-out dialog. European readers can reopen their consent message with Cookie settings. Choices apply to this browser; clearing site data or using another browser may require making them again.

Regional advertising controls appear here when Google's privacy service is available and applies to your location. You can also use the browser and advertising controls described below.

Turning analytics off stops future site analytics and removes accessible analytics cookies. It does not delete data already collected. “Use regional analytics settings” removes this site's extra analytics-off preference; it does not grant European consent or override Global Privacy Control. Advertising choices are managed separately through Google's dialog.

Other controls and services

You can delete or block cookies through your browser. Global Privacy Control keeps our analytics off and is handled by Google's U.S. advertising privacy settings. You can also use Google Ads Settings, the Digital Advertising Alliance opt-out, and the Google Analytics opt-out add-on.
