The Guitammer Company formed in 1990, taking its name from guitar and hammer, and originally sold a guitar accessory called the Hammer Jammer. The move into tactile bass came from outside the company: Marvin Clamme, a professional studio engineer, filed the foundational Low Frequency Vibrator patent in July 1998 and later assigned the rights to Guitammer, which built the ButtKicker line on it.
