A floor plan is a scaled, top-down drawing of a room or building, showing walls, doors, windows, and fixed furniture as if the roof had been lifted off and the space photographed from directly above. For a man cave build, that means the pool table's footprint, the swing arc of the bar door, the run of outlets behind the bar, and the exact width of the walkway between the sectional and the screen, all drawn at a fixed scale so an eighth of an inch on paper reads as a true six inches on the floor. Getting this drawing right before anything gets framed or wired saves real money. What a floor plan actually shows

Where the convention came from
