Why the category exists, and what 2019 changed

Three ways people ruin a beverage cooler
Building in a freestanding unit is the big one, and it usually happens during a cabinet install when the cooler already sitting in the garage seems close enough to the right size. Heat builds behind the cabinet face, the compressor runs continuously, and the failure turns up eighteen months later just outside warranty. Buy a front venting model rated for built in use, or leave real clearance on every side.
Running one in an unheated garage or shed is second. Most units want an ambient temperature above roughly 55 to 60°F for the thermostat to cycle properly, and below that the contents can end up warmer than the room outside. Garage rated models exist and say so on the box.
Third is the glass door in direct sun.
